Hospitalfield Trust & Scottish Sculpture Workshop

In a move which could significantly elevate Scotland’s international presence in the visual arts, Scottish Sculpture Workshop, and Hospitalfield Trust, based in Arbroath, have identified a series of common aims and are now considering how best to pursue them.

Hospitalfield and SSW are institutions with matching aspirations in the visual arts and complementary strengths. Both are ambitious for a new phase of development and input into
Scotland’s rising cultural presence on the international scene. By combining our energies we will have the critical mass to make a more powerful footprint in the visual arts and achieve much more than we can individually.

Bringing together SSW’s contemporary, funded programming strengths with Hospitalfield’s international arts outreach and historic country house setting we have a vigorous and influential vehicle to deliver opportunities for artists and for enhancing excellence in the visual arts.

The two institutions have identified a number of areas for joint delivery including international residencies for artists, a programme of seminars and events including research with
Scottish Art Schools; building custom made artists’ studios and a programme of courses and workshops. As a first step the two organisations will collaborate on a major joint project bid.

The two organisations are exploring a range of collaborative scenarios, with a focus on sustainability, and both boards will take time to consider options, but our immediate focus is on combining our strengths to develop a unique resource delivering artistic excellence for the visual arts in
Scotland
